Datsun GO Plus Affordable But Not Attractive And Safe
The MPV segment altogether took a different turn when Maruti introduced its Ertiga in the market. The prime reason for its success has been its affordability, decent equipment level and of course, its capacity of carrying two extra passengers. This certainly distracted a large chunk of Toyota Innova buyers who were ready to compromise a bit on interior space. The same cost-cutting strategy was adopted by Datsun for its GO Plus MPV. Datsun GO Plus has earned the title of the most affordable MPV in the Indian market. Despite the competition from Maruti, it has been selling close to 500 units a month on an average which is a decent number for a new brand and that too in the steadily growing segment. As far as the looks of the car are concerned, the GO Plus is a stretched version of the GO hatchback. It looks quite acceptable when viewed from the front with wraparound headlamps and D-cut grille. However, turn around and you will find the side profile dull and unattractive, thanks to the rear overhang and the undersized 13-inch wheels. The rear profile of the car is also plain jane. As per today's standards, the car doesn't look pleasing to the eyes, though for the first time buyers who are short on budget, would be overall satisfied. Stepping inside, the carmaker dittoed the GO hatchback here too, especially at the first two rows. The third row is fit for children only and adults will find it painful. In terms of features, quality, fit and finish, cost cutting is obvious. People with safety concerns might also be disappointed with the flimsy design and light build quality with only driver side airbag available and that too as an option. So, Datsun GO Plus might fit the bill for those who want a large family carrier in an affordable price range. But forget it if you are looking for a stylish vehicle with nice feature list and decent amount of safety aspects. However, the carmaker is planning to launch a facelift version of the same in India soon. The new model has been launched in the Indonesian market with updated exteriors and interiors including revamped bumpers, new alloys, re-designed dashboard with new instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment as well as CVT automatic transmission. All these changes will help the carmaker turn the tables to its side.
