HYUNDAI ELITE I20 8000 KMS LONG TERM REVIEW!

Hello internet, and today I will be reviewing the 2017 i20 after 8000 km. Most of these points also hold true for the facelifted model as not much has changed with the facelift. Exterior It's really hard to believe that the design, aside from minor tweaks and feature changes was made about 3.5 years ago, it has aged really well! The Black accents here and there, especially at the c-pillar of the car really give the car the flair and modern look it flaunts the alloy wheels also compliment the look of the car the chrome door handles also look really nice but the button for the keyless entry is located only on the driver's side but not the passenger's side. This can get annoying at times. Compared to its rival, the Baleno, the Elite i20 definitely is more modern looking whereas Baleno looks more ... Normal, whether it be the headlights or the overall lines of the car, i20 definitely looks more modern but one thing to note is that the Hyundai logo in front of the car is HUGE! Like the size of my With the 2017 update the car did get led DRL's and projector headlamps on the top end Asta variant, which was definitely worth the extra, but one disappointing fact is that, unlike the Baleno, this car does not get HID headlamps as instead, it gets regular halogen lamps. The build quality of this car is spectacular, the dimensions of this car are smaller in every aspect when compared to the Baleno. Interior The interior of the i20 is very pleasant and nice with the dual tone scheme along with the flowing dashboard, everything is where it's supposed to be and the main part is that the build quality of the plastics is really good! The dashboard of the car is also really nice looking with an asymmetrical design and the dual tone scheme. Another thing to note is the attention to detail in this car, especially in the interior! For example, the beige plastic piece does not end with the dashboard, instead, Hyundai added a little beige plastic piece, around the door handle just to give an ending to the beige piece! But they also stuck the same piece on the back doors which are just there without any ending Also another annoying thing about this interior is the placement of the left and the right ac vents of the car, they are angled away from the passenger and hence those vents are useless that can really get annoying! The sun visors don't have anything special but the warning label of the airbag is stuck on the passenger side of the sun visor , it shows a child flying off the seat in case the child seat is positioned the wrong way around when the airbag deploys it's really funny how the company warns you of the consequences of keeping the child seat the wrong way around, speaking of airbags, the car comes with 6 airbags, a major USP of this car , it also comes with the standard safety features such as ABS and EBD it also gets speed sensing door locks which are really useful Coming back into the interior , the infotainment screen is pretty good , but the thing I noticed is that the car was definitely not created with the touchscreen in mind , especially with the steering mounted audio controls , another gripe with the system is that it does not have a pause button, this might sound like nitpicking, but trust me it can really get annoying when you have to press media and the specific player and then press the tiny pause button ! Another infotainment feature that came with the 2017 update was the inclusion of Android auto with the system , but Android auto is not so good and the performance is not too great and it just tends to hang. Coming to the rear of the car , legroom and headroom is not great . With the driver's seat adjusted to my position you can see legroom and headroom is not great , especially when compared to it's rivals , but it's not bad. The rear AC vents are a boon , especially during the hot Chennai days! Speaking of the AC it's really good , but one thing I noticed is that when the car is idling for more than 5 mins in traffic , the AC just is not doing the job , this can get annoying in traffic , but it's not bad by any means . The gauge cluster is still modern looking and is illuminated all the time, nothing much, except for the fact that this gauge cluster seems to be shared with international Hyundai cars, as if you shine a flashlight, you can see some other labels such as traction control. It's a cost cutting measure but nevertheless, it looks good and the display in the gauge cluster shows a tiny i20 zooming past the trip start point if you navigate to the trip section of the display. Driving Experience Getting to drive the i20 is a really pleasant experience it has a power output of 88 bhp and 84nm of torque it seems underpowered, for the weight which is at 1200 kgs, but it's not if you put your foot down the vehicle pulls forward really nicely in a linear manner. The steering is very light and the suspension is. Perfectly calibrated , not too soft , not too harsh , the steering and suspension really compliment the car's great ride quality, the NVH levels are so low that sometimes I even forget to turn off the car before I get out , another clear thing about this car is who this car is targeted towards , there is a punchy low end , torque surges after 1,500rpm and after 3000rpm the car again gets another wave of power and torque but according to me I think Hyundai never even thought about their customers redlining this engine as the engine has no top end and struggles to get up to the redline, but basically falls quiet at 1.750 rpm and at 2,750 rpm I feel the NVH levels are at the max, after which it refines really nicely. This is one of the smoothest engines I have ever driven, the cabin is well insulated which gives you a feeling that you are in a car which is a class above! The 8,000 km really made a huge difference in the driving experience of the car , in the first 2000 the gearbox was So stiff I thought it was defective , but after 2,000 kms , it has smoothened to become one of the smoothest gear shifters and even the ergonomics of this lever is really nice and comfortable! Till date getting the car into reverse gear is kind of tricky , the car shifts into reverse. Speaking of reversing the reverse parking camera is really great with the dynamic guidelines and another advantage is that the reverse light is placed at the bottom which lights up the road , giving some light for the camera to pickup some light and show what's happening . A gripe with the sensors is that the display for the sensors is placed inside the guage cluster , which makes you depend on the sound it makes when you get closer to an object. The car gives a milage of 12-13 in a city with ac at low with 3 people on board and it gives an impressive 19km/l in the highway with 3 people on board with ac at low. Now , coming to pricing , the car starts at 5.4 lakhs ex showroom and works all the way up to 9 lakhs for the top end diesel. But you will not want the base variant at least get the sportz variant with the infotainment system starting at 6.7 lakhs. This holds true even with the facelifted model. Overall the i20 is a great car which ticks all the boxes of being a great car and it's safer , having 6 airbags and a better looking design than it's rivals. The driving experience is very pleasant and a pleasure to drive. Overall , the i20 is a must buy if you care about safety , and like the looks of this car!
